Pale Sun Rustic Silk with Red Ikat Kasuri Tortoise Shell/Kikko, Vintage Kimono Silk by the Yard from Japan #153
Tiny little black shapes almost look like the stitches on a baseball, and they create six-sided tortoise shell shapes through the pastel yellow silk. We think this is raw silk similar to Tsumugi. In Japan also they sometimes spin and use the 'thread scraps' from previous fabrics, creating extra color, texture, and slubs. Both sides are the same and it has a cottony feel; mid lightweight and thin, matte not shiny, slubby and textured, soft, supple and almost fluffy. No body or crispness at all. 14" wide and in great condition with slubs and a rustic vibe; it may be older than vintage and was probably hand woven. Sold by the full yard and we'll cut yours in a continuous piece from the never used vintage bolt. 100% Silk. Japan.
