The view is muted as if there is rain, fog, early morning or dusk calming the colors in the flowers, trees, homes and mountains. This thin, somewhat crispy silk is probably from the 1960's and is handwoven, certified Oshima Tsumugi. These ikats are known for their quality and for highly skilled Oshima artisans who have created them since the 1300's. The kimono made from Oshima Tsumugi silk become beloved heirlooms because they are so beautiful, long-lasting and so comfortable to wear in all types of weather, year after year. Lightweight, very smooth, lustrous and incredibly soft, each thread is pre-dyed to create the intricate ikat design once woven. It takes months to dye and weave one bolt; there are so many processes to assure its beauty.
