Mystery Ikat, Teal/Bronze Drawings on Ivory, Oshima? Vintage Kimono Silk from Japan, By the Yard #313
All done in the weave, we think this may be a 'non-certified' Oshima silk; it's certainly a difficult, detailed weave, very smooth, sleek, soft silk, and our translation on our phone thinks one of the figures woven in black near the fringe says "Oshima" and/or "Large Island". The dark teal and brownish bronze figures are reminiscent of Kanji; they almost seem to sparkle because of the character of the intricate weave. A story, a newspaper, a village layout, Taos Pueblo? The base silk is a warm ivory/parchment, color with tiny sashiko-look spots throughout, further adding to the aged look. Very thin and light, a bit crisp but not drapey or shiny. A true ikat, both sides are the same. 14" wide and sold by the full yard. We'll cut yours in one piece from the never used, vintage or possibly older bolt. Unique! 100% Silk from Japan.
