Raspberry 'Shark Skin' Tiny Dot Print Komon Silk, Chirimen Crepe from Japan By the Yard #556

This is komon silk, which looks almost solid from a distance but is actually made up of tiny, almost white dots, creating a pattern that we're told is called Shark Skin in Japan, which signifies protection and safety, a charm against evil. The solid color is rasperry red, and with the white dots, reads as deep raspberry from a distance. The back is basically natural white; the print barely comes through. It's a drapey crepe weave, with a subtle, fine pebbly texture, not as strong as some chirimen. Thin, light, supple, soft and flowy, with no body and no shine. 14" wide and sold by the full yard; we'll cut yours in one piece from the excellent condition, unused vintage kimono silk bolt. 100% Silk.
