Dark Red-Black Stripe-Plaid, Vintage Kimono Yarn-Dye Silk from Nishijin Japan By the Yard #562

Only 21 left!

Deep dark red woven with lots of black.  There are stripes, plaid, and broken ikat running stripes that are more red and less black, in between, adding depth. We see the red as dramatic and dark. This silk is a bit thicker and heavier than most kimono silks, mid-weight, smooth and very soft, with body and no drape. It's not truly shiny but does have lustre and a bit of a rustle when touched. It's close to quilting cotton thickness and weight, very tightly woven, stable and strong, smooth not slubby. It was woven for a men's kimono ensemble including kimono jacket and pants.  A true ikat, everything is in the weave and back and front are just the same. 14" wide and sold by the full yard, yours will be in one piece cut from the never-used, excellent condition vintage bolt. 100% Silk. Japan.

Nishijin Heritage Status: Formally designated as a traditional craft by the Japanese government, authentic Nishijin Textiles are strictly controlled by the local union and historically supplied the Imperial Court for over a thousand years.
