Bamboo and Chrysanthemums Bingata Hama Chirimen Crepe Kimono Silk from Japan By the Yard #567

Liquid drape, textured, chirimen silk crepe is a hand stenciled Bingata silk with cherry blossoms, chrysanthemums and bamboo. The colors are muted; the background is a gray-taupe old-looking color, the rusty red-maroon is dark and not bright at all. The bingata work was done by pressing the plant dyes including into hand-made stencils, bit by bit. A bingata like this can take weeks or months to make and this one is very intricate. If you compare similar art elsewhere in the print, you can see the differences in how the color adhered to the silk. This is a Hama Chirimen which is famous in Japan for its quality. The chirimen texture is quite pronounced and there is no shine. If the photos make any of the colors look odd, dark, light or faded, don't believe it; that's the camera struggling with the textures. The print makes the silk seem older than vintage, in our opinion, but it's in great condition and we assume the antique look is intentional. 100% Silk. Japan.
