Ikat Windows on Brick-Rust-Red, Rustic Slubby Vintage Kimono Silk from Japan By the Yard, #143

Deep reddish rust, which we see as rich and deep but not bright, with yellow-orange and white woven rectangles shot with and muted by the red, all done in the ikat weave. Interestingly, this silk is so thin and light that it's a bit sheer, and in some places you can see lighter crosswise bands, from the lighter threads in those areas. Their visibility depends on the light and angle of viewing. The last photo shows the photographer's hand in bright light behind the fabric. This silk has no sheen and has a cottony-silky rustic tribal feel, lots of body and bounce and no drape. A true ikat, both sides are just the same.  It was probably hand dyed and handwoven, decades ago. We do see one small hole in the second yard, shown in the photo with the chopstick.
