Indigo Deer on Black, Vintage Yuki Tsumugi Ikat Kimono Silk from Japan, By the Yard #210
Indigo blue and black cross woven silk blended to create a true black background, plus dark blue, diamond shapes with what we think are subtle, low contrast figures of deer, inside. In Shintoism in Japan, deer are thought to be sacred messengers of the gods. This silk is soft and supple, with very little body, a cotton-like soft matte feel, medium weight. A true ikat, back and front are just the same. Slightly slubby texture; not at all sleek or shiny. Tags indicate Handwoven Certified Yuki Tsumugi 100% Silk, Ibaraki Japan. The background is black, not dark blue. Overall it reads as very dark midnight. 14" wide and sold by the full yard, we'll cut yours in one piece from the vintage, never used bolt.
