A rare and gorgeous Tango Chirimen!  Dusty Rose with narrow rectangular artworks of fruits and flowers long grasses, in 8-9 different designed areas throughout the bolt. We've photographed most of them. The smaller ones are around 8-10" long. The largest, 20-30".  Some are singles and in some areas two or three are grouped. Spacing between art varies, and of course there is lots of 'plain' beautiful blended dusty rose crepe, so that the art would be in the right places on the body when the kimono was worn. Liquid drape, incredibly supple, fine Tango Chirimen, (per the gold stamp certification), one of the finest and most desirable crepe silks from Japan. It's thin, light and flowy. The crepe texture is smoother and more subtle than most chirimen. The last 5 photos are closeups to show detail of some of the handpainted rectangles. They are all square to the edges of the fabric; the photographer apologizes for not holding the camera totally square to the fabric, but rest assured the silk artist made all the edges perfect, straight 90 degree angles.  This is for the whole 14" wide bolt of about 12.5 yards. It's in beautiful condition, never used. 100% Silk. Japan.  Order "1" for the bolt. Exceptional.

Tango Chirimen originated around 1720 during the Edo period. The Tango Textile Industrial Association oversees its heritage and production quality, with historical manufacturing districts like the Chirimen Kaido in Yosano designated as Japan Heritage sites.
