Chocolate Gardens Tsumugi Silk Print Piece from Japan 15" x 60 #JA-06

 A high contrast dark brown and tan design with so many flowers and leaves, swirls and tendrils. Deep chocolate brown, (not black) with mustard and rust. The light tan background is very even in tone, probably the natural undyed silk color. This Tsumugi silk has raw silk's cotton-like, very soft feel, slightly textured from the varying thicknesses of fine silk thread, with a bit of body, slight drape and no shine.  It may be hand stenciled; the color brushwork comes very close but doesn't exactly match its twin 19" away, in the next repeat. The back is basically cream; the color just barely comes through. These are pieces from a vintage kimono, carefully taken apart and cleaned, ready for a new life.  19" repeat. 100% Silk. Japan.
