Wild Abstract Array with Tweed, Vintage Meisen Kimono Silk Piece, 14" x 41" from Japan #ZP-48
Like a large-scale freeform, no-right-angles patchwork, with black, white, grays, and plenty of brights, with black, white and red woven-look 'tweed' showing up now and then. A vintage treasure, it is a true ikat, so both sides are just the same. It has Meisen's desirable, intentional, traditional blur. One selvedge is turquoise. Thin and light, it's a bit sleek and a bit crisp, with a slight sheen. This silk is from a 1930's-50's kimono, and is in good condition with some fold lines from its previous life - vintage charm. Sold per 14" x 41" piece. 100% Silk. Japan.
78" LONG BONUS PIECE: If you buy both of these pieces, we'll include for free, the larger pieced-together piece shown in the last 3 photos. It is from this kimono's araihari; the process of taking a kimono completely apart and basting it back together in a certain way to be cleaned thoroughly without damaging the kimono. This piece is made up of 4 various sized, narrow than 14" pieces, basted together as shown, and its total length is 78". Part of it is 11" wide and part is 14" wide.
