Shifting Woven Rectangles Off-White/Blue Pongee Ikat, Vintage Silk from Japan By the Yard #413
This thin, light, soft, smooth and supple vintage kimono silk has tiny, intricate details in the geometric design of the weave. In Japan, the kimono made from silks like this become beloved heirlooms because they are so beautiful, long-lasting and so comfortable to wear in all types of weather, year after year. Each thread is pre-dyed to create the intricate ikat design once woven. It takes years to learn the technique, and months to dye and weave one bolt; there are many processes necessary to assure its beauty and quality. The background is creamy off-white, and the ikat is blue. Overall from a distance it may seem pale teal. A true ikat, both sides are the just the same and very soft and smooth. It has a bit of body, no shine and no drape. We haven't found any issues with the condition. 14" wide and sold by the full yard; we'll cut yours in one continuous piece from the bolt. 100% Silk from Japan, probably Oshima.
