Layers, Oshima-Like Vintage Kimono Silk from Japan By the Yard #229
Red and golden olive not-clear 'stripes' blend with the lighter color background so they become muted. They are crosswise through the bolt, on a background of off-white with tiny black 'crosses', all done in the weave. This thin, soft, somewhat crispy silk is probably from the 1960's and is just like handwoven Oshima Tsumugi but there are no certification labels. Lightweight, very smooth and lustrous and incredibly soft, each thread is pre-dyed to create the intricate ikat design once woven. It probably took months to dye and weave this bolt; there are so many processes involved. A true ikat, both sides are the just the same. 14" wide and sold by the full yard; we'll cut yours from the never-used, beautiful condition, probably mud dyed and hand woven vintage bolt. 100% Silk. Japan. Exquisite.
