Night Migration Ikat, Dark Indigo Yuki Tsumugi Vintage Kimono Silk By the Yard from Japan, #310
Yuki Tsumugi is a UNESCO-recognized intangible cultural heritage.
Dark midnight blue can appear nearly black depending on the light. Perhaps the blue, white and red semi-circles are meant to be birds; they're subtle, especially the red ones, because of how dark the background is. This silk is on the heavy side for kimono silk, almost 'fluffy' like raw silk or cotton, with a matte finish, characteristic of many Yuki Tsumugi Silks from days past. It's very soft, not sleek or shiny at all; with lots texture and slubs. Beautiful gray selvedges. Very soft and luscious. A true ikat, both sides are the same. The labels certify Yuki Tsumugi Silk. Probably dyed with real indigo. and other natural dyes. 14.5" wide and sold by the full yard. We'll cut yours in one piece from the never used, beautiful condition vintage bolt. 100% Silk from Japan. This silk is an important part of textile history in Japan. Read more about Yuki Tsumugi here.
