Perhaps inspired by a patchwork of other kimono silks, this ikat is true black and bright red-orange (more red than orange), for an overall dark burgundy/russet look. This silk is almost certainly a handwoven Tsumugi, but there are no labels. It's thin and light, with raw silk's softness, quite smooth, almost the feeling of silk blended with fine cotton.  It has a little body and is a bit supple but not flowy, and not shiny or sleek. A true double ikat, both sides are the same. The color is more towards red than orange, and the black is deep and rich. There's no color cast -  in reality the red-orange and black have high contrast together. Selvedges are beautiful gray. The pattern repeat is about 23". Vintage kimono silk in pristine condition, 14" wide and sold by the full yard. We'll cut yours in one piece from the vintage, unused bolt. 100% Silk. Japan.
