Hexagons/Diamonds Gray/Black/Green/Red Ikat Handwoven Vintage Kimono Silk from Japan By the Yard #149
Black and white silk threads combine to look gray and black. There are dark burgundy red stepped squares, Kikko (hexagon-shaped tortoise shells, signifying longevity) and dark olive green in the design as well. Overall this silk reads as fairly dark, but there is a lot of contrast between all the colors, and to us it's quite dynamic. This silk ikat is thin and light. It has body, a very slight crispness, no slubs. Not rustic at all. The hand feel is very soft, smooth and luxurious; as nice as a true Oshima but the tags only indicate pure silk and handwoven, so it probably wasn't woven on Oshima Island itself. No shine. A true ikat so both sides look just the same. Sold by the full yard and we'll cut yours in one piece from the vintage, perfect condition, unused bolt. 100% Silk, 14" wide. Japan.
