Tiny woven 'tortoise shells' (kikko) nested together. Blue and black are the only two colors, and they combine to read deep navy-indigo-midnight. It's an incredibly intricate, difficult weave with so much detail on a very fine silk and at small scale. A true ikat, both sides are just the same.  It's soft, thin, smooth, light, a bit crisp. It has body, not drape. True certified Oshima; a beloved, lustrous, heavenly to wear, increasingly rare kimono silk made for centuries in Japan. Most are plant and mud dyed and woven by hand, as we assume this one was.  Read more here. 

14.5" wide, this is a large 22-yard bolt intended for 'mens ensemble'. which includes pants and kimono.  Sold by the full yard and we'll cut yours as one piece from the never used, excellent condition vintage bolt.  100% Silk. Japan.
