Reddish Terra Cotta Lustre Ikat Stripe, Vintage Kimono Silk By the Yard from Japan, #311

  • $14.00

Fine dark red and blue single-thread random stripes, interwoven with clay and pale apricot tones, with a stunning result.  Always changing in the light, sometimes it looks like a faded burgundy color almost towards purple. The background is slightly mottled with colors quietly blending and moving lighter and darker and sometimes towards blues or grays. Thin and light, lustrous but not really shiny, a bit crisp, not drapey, a true ikat, both sides are the same. The label may read "Mountain Forest Japanese Pepper Weaving", perhaps referring to the contrasting colors in the weave, sometimes called salt and pepper when black and white. (Wild guess.)  14" wide and sold by the full yard. We'll cut yours in one piece from the never used, beautiful condition vintage bolt. 100% Silk from Japan. Exquisite.
