Gray Grid-Tweed-Like Geometry Masterpiece Kimono Silk from Japan By the Yard, #531
A wonder of beautiful weaving, combining squares, thin red and yellow stripes that come and go, blocks and rectangles in various weaves next to each other. There are heavier black threads occasionally, but mostly this silk is smooth, not textured, thin and a bit crisp. It has structure and body, and both sides are the same. Depending on the light it can read as charcoal or steel blue-gray. The red and yellow stripes show up a bit stronger than in the photos. As the light hits the surface there is a bit of a sheen and the complexity of the weave sometimes confuses the camera; in reality the weave does not fade or vary in color. The old price tag indicates this bolt was priced at over $500, possibly a few decades ago. 14" wide and sold by the full yard - we'll cut yours in one piece from the excellent condition vintage bolt. 100% Silk. Japan.
This weave is unusual, beautiful, complex and hard to photograph. We're happy to mail you a free swatch; just email us at nancyarnold2006@gmail.com
