Black and white silk threads combine to look gray and black. There are dark burgundy red stepped squares, Kikko (hexagon-shaped tortoise shells, signifying longevity) and dark olive green in the design as well. Overall this silk reads as fairly dark, but there is alot of contrast between all the colors, and to us it's quite dynamic.  This silk ikat is thin and light. It has body, a very slight crispness, no slubs. Not rustic at all.  The hand feel is very soft, smooth and luxurious; as nice as a true Oshima but the tags only indicate pure silk and handwoven, so it probably wasn't woven on Oshima Island itself. No shine. A true ikat so both sides look just the same. Sold by the full yard and we'll cut yours in one piece from the vintage, perfect condition, unused bolt. 100% Silk, 14" wide. Japan.
